Trip Rules
These are suggested rules which we have found to be helpful on a club outing. They are simple rules not intended to restrict your fun, but rather to act as reminders for a safe and enjoyable trip.
Don't be a "Litter Bug". The rule is "If you haul it in - YOU haul it out". Don't be careless about matches and cigarettes. Be sure fires are put out completely. Firearms are not allowed to be exposed in camp. Speed limit in and around camp is 5 miles per hour. When traveling with other vehicles, always wait at the turn for the vehicle behind you. Keep the vehicle behind you in sight when possible. If you don't, STOP, and go back after a reasonable length of time. If you leave a caravan or trip, please notify the person in charge. Obey the Trail Boss as to the rules for each trip. Often you are on government or private lands and it is the responsibility of the trip leader to see that the privileges extended to the group are not violated. Park, Forest and other land regulations are Laws and shall always be obeyed. The destruction of plants, soil, meadows, is to be strictly avoided. Outdoor bathroom stops may be handled by "men to the left, women to the right". Overnight camping is basically
the same except for the fact you are together out of your vehicles for a longer period of time. Courtesy is the keynote to a great trip.Personal Safety Recommendations:
Four Wheeling involves people - drivers, passengers and by-standers. These safety recommendations are suggested to help in the protection of the people involved, both directly and in association with the vehicle.
No 4wheeling should be done on club runs without 2 or more vehicles.
All passengers should be afforded the protection of roll bars. In the absence of a full roll cage, the windshield should be removed or latched down.
No standing in the vehicle while it is in motion.
Loose objects such as passenger seats, tool boxes, ice chests and spare tires should be firmly secured.
Children should never be left alone in a vehicle. Be sure to remove the keys when vehicle is parked or unoccupied.
Members should be responsible for his/her guests on club trips. Members should also be responsible for their children and pets.
All persons should be kept safely away from vehicles engaged in hill climbs, winching, or when overcoming obstacles on the trail.
Select the proper gear for going down steep slopes. New drivers should be instructed in proper 4wheeling techniques by seasoned 4wheelers.
Dry your brakes immediately after passing through water to avoid brake failure and possible accident.
Avoid traveling on side hills if possible.
Don't tail-gate, especially while on the trail.
Don't pull or tow anyone on sleds, racks, sheet metal, or other material, (especially in the dune areas).
Firearms should not be unnecessarily displayed within camp area and should be discharged only at a safe and prudent distance from camp.
CB radios are highly recommended, however, operators should abide by FCC rules. Don't let children play with the CB.
Excessive drinking and intoxication should be avoided. Persons who are intoxicated should not drive.
Conserve the environment. ENJOY AND DON'T DESTROY! TREAD LIGHTLY.
Vehicle Requirements:
As a four wheeler, you are especially dependent upon the performance and equipment of your vehicle. These guidelines are aimed toward you having a safe vehicle. All vehicles driven on public highways and roads should meet these requirements.
Roll bars, Roll cages.
Seat belts for all occupents.
First aid kit is a must.
Fire Extinguisher.
Safety flag on antenna (dunes)
Axe, shovel, bucket.
Tow ropes, cables, winch.
Emergency brake that operates.
Cut-off exhausts must conform to State and Federal laws regarding off-road vehicle use.
Water, 5 gallons per person.
Gas, Bring 5 extra gallons.
Spare tire should be within 2 inches of the vehicles other tires.
Jack and lug wrench.
Other important safety items:
All above items secured down. No antennas over 48" long All lights and horns working. Tow hooks and CB radio.
Extra food, blankets, clothes, flashlights and toilet paper. Tools for repairing vehicle. Snake bit kit. Mirror for signaling for help. Extra parts such as fan belts, hoses, duct tape, shackles, u-joints, cables, tires patches, waterproof matches, piece of wood for jack, tire pump.
